Kelo-cote® is a patented, transparent, self-drying silicone gel technology which improves the appearance of scars and prevents abnormal or excessive scar formation. Its main ingredient, silicone, is the No. 1 dermatologist-recommended scar-reduction treatment ingredient.

Kelo-cote is the only patented silicone gel clinically proven to smooth, soften and flatten scars. It also relieves itching and discomfort, and reduces redness and discolouration.

Kelo-cote® works to diminish the appearance of hypertrophic scars and keloids, which have a raised and/or discoloured appearance. These types of scars may result from surgery, injury, burns, acne, cuts, insect bites, and others.

Kelo-cote® is self-drying, colourless and odourless. When used as directed, Kelo-cote® has been shown to soften and flatten raised scars, and reduce the redness associated with scars. Kelo-cote® is clinically tested, and effective for both old and new scars; it also is suitable for use on children and people with sensitive skin.

Recommended by Physicians

Silicone is now the scar treatment choice of plastic surgeons worldwide.

  • Over the past 20 years strong evidence has demonstrated the efficacy of silicone for scar treatment and abnormal scar prevention. Silicone has, therefore become the gold standard for physicians.
  • International Clinical Recommendations on Scar Management recommend that silicone should be the first line therapy in the management of all scars and particularly in the prevention of hypertrophic scars.²

An observational study conducted by Sepehrmanesh of 1522 patients using Kelo-cote® to treat scars, demonstrated the effectiveness and tolerability of the product.

Both physicians and patients were satisfied with Kelo-cote® and the therapeutic success achieved in terms of scar appearance and feel.

How Kelo-cote works

Kelo-cote dries to form a breathable, flexible and waterproof sheet.

The sheet creates a protective barrier against chemical, physical and bacterial invasion, while assisting with skin hydration.

This allows the scar to mature through normalised collagen synthesis cycles, and improves the physiological and cosmetic appearance of the scar.

How to use Kelo-cote Gel for Scar Treatment

Ensure that the affected area is clean and dry. Apply Kelo-cote® to the area as a very thin coat and allow to dry. Apply Kelo-cote® twice a day. Once dry, it can be covered with cosmetics or sunscreen. The recommended duration of treatment is 60-90 days.

Warnings: Avoid direct contact with eyes, mucous membranes, third degree burns and open wounds. Kelo-cote® should not be used on dermatological conditions that disrupt the integrity of the skin. For external use only. If irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult your physician. Keep this product out the reach of children. Store below 25°C/77°F.

Directions for Application

  • Kelo-cote® gel is easy to apply.
  • Only a small quantity of Kelo-cote is needed.
  • Apply a very thin layer over the scar. Let it dry and do not rub
  • It rapidly dries within 4-5 minutes to form a transparent, breathable, flexible and waterproof layer; it forms a bond with the outer layer of the skin, protecting the scar and allowing it to mature through normal collagen production. This improves the cosmetic appearance of the scar.
  • Cosmetics and sun protection can be applied, once Kelo-cote® has dried. It is suitable for children and people with sensitive skin; it can be used on irregular scar surfaces, in joint areas, and large area scars such as those caused by burns or major trauma.
  • The recommended minimum treatment time is 60–90 days. Larger and older scars may take longer and continued use is recommended if improvement is still seen after the initial 90 days.

When used as directed, Kelo-cote® can be used on any part of the body, avoiding mucous membranes, open wounds, and direct contact with eyes. How long should I use Kelo-cote®?

Treatment duration will vary from person to person and from scar to scar, depending on many factors. Recommended minimum treatment time is 60-90 days.
